1. Common and John Legend Wins Best Original Song at Golden Globes
Rapper Common and singer-songwriter John Legend won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song for their original song, ‘Glory’ from the movie Selma. Sunday night. The award was presented by singer-songwriter,Prince but it was Common’s provoking freestyle acceptance speech that had the audience in awe.
“The first day I stepped on the set of Selma, I began to feel like this was bigger than a movie,” Common said.
“As I got to know the people of the Civil Rights Movement, I realized I am the hopeful black woman who was denied her right to vote. I am the caring white supporter who was killed on the front lines of freedom. I am the unarmed black kid who maybe needed a hand but instead was given a bullet. I am the two fallen police officers, murdered in the line of duty. ‘Selma’ has awakened my humanity.”
The film was also nominated for 2015 Best Motion Picture, Drama. Check out the rest of the acceptance speech below. To hear the song in its entirety, visit selmamovie.com.

3. Shots Fired at Fiesta Nightclub During Chris Brown Appearance
Chris Brown was hosting Fiesta nightclub’s Capricorn Bash accompanied by girlfriend Karrueche Tran in San Jose on Saturday when gunfire rang out in the back of the crowd. During Breezy’s performance of “Loyal”, shots were fired around 1:20 a.m. local time, causing mayhem in the venue. A San Jose police spokesperson reported that the gunfire took place both inside and outside the venue. Cops arrived on scene to find four people injured, who were then rushed to the hospital. A fifth victim had left the area, but later went to a hospital as well.
If that wasn’t enough, fans later got on twitter and proceeded to bash Chris Brown for ducking for cover during the shooting and in true Chris Brown fashion, he went off!
Us here at the Mixx fully support Brown’s actions to take cover. We would be scratching our heads if he did anything other than the basic reaction to survive. People can be so foolish.
