From the Philippines to sunny Los Angeles, Rhuigi Villaseñor has been sure to make a name for himself and his family.  Coming to the city of Los Angeles, at the age of 11 Rhude’s founder Rhuigi, was determined to have a better life. His culture, where he came from and also living in a city where the possibilities are limitless inspired him to produce his label “Rhude” back in 2015.

“Seven Falls” ,Rhude’s first collection, debuted at Paris fashion week June 23rd, 2019.  Through his love of vintage fashion he birthed something incredible for Rhuigi. At an early age he knew that he had a passion for making clothes. He would often skip classes in school to go learn how to make patterns. He never attended college, or went to a fashion school. But did not let that stop him. His first collection showed in “The City Of Lights” was nothing less than amazing.  With so many up and coming designers and creative directors, sometimes I feel as if the industry can be saturated. I think there is always room for something new to be birthed if you have a new perspective on things and are willing to shift the narrative in the story.

Rhuigi stated that he wanted to be apart of the luxury world. It’s not just based on price, but also understanding the quality of what goes into producing an actual product from start to finish. His 2020 Spring/Summer collection was full of high quality leather pieces, mixed with western vibes. I have been following the brand for at least 2-3 years, and I remember watching an interview of when he first started in his parent’s garage.  This proves that it doesn’t matter how you start, but how you finish!  He also had produced his own footwear for the collection as well. I am confident he is creating a new wave for street wear and the way we see it.

Rhuigi always stays true to his brand and the narrative behind it. Which is very important. Some brands lose that essence of who they are sometimes. I am super excited to see where this brand goes and cannot wait for the next collection and show.  I truly believe Rhuigi is Fashion’s next BIG THING! Without a doubt, his first show was a success – Congrats Rhuigi!
