#MixxViews: Young Girl Post Video Defining Abuse As Love

By  |  0 Comments

Sooooo I was scrolling down my newsfeed on Facebook and just so happen to stumble across this video of Romina Garcia soliciting advice to young girls that if their boyfriends beat them then they should stay with them. She posted the video over 20 hours ago with the caption “If your nigga gives u a black eye , he LOvES U ! U better stay with him .” She goes to discuss her own encounters with abuse by her boyfriend stating that it was her fault she was beaten and even goes on to state why staying with abusers is the right choice.

“He’s risking for you to press charges on him. He’s risking for you to call the police or, you know, he’s gonna do time or he’s gonna have to pay money to get out of jail or whatever the case may be. He’s risking all of that… For YOU. So you need to get on your f**king knees and just pray and hope that he doesn’t give you another black eye or he doesn’t kill you.”

Many have shared her video and flooded her wall on her personal page with memes and comments good and bad about her views on violence. Some are stating she was merely joking and are coming to her defense at Facebook users who have posted negative commentary on her wall, labeling them as bullies. On the other hand, some users are not taking this matter lightly, going as far as telling her she’s influencing youth to subject themselves to abuse.

Now usually I don’t feed into such ignorance but this video is the exception. I know we all have the right to express how we feel on controversial matters but is this justified if your message could possibly be detrimental to others that hear it. She could very well be influencing a young girl right now who’s suffering in a domestic relationship and wondering what her next move should be or convincing one on the fence of staying or leaving or even pressing charges. I would hope that those who do suffer from domestic abuse would be able to decipher the right and wrong in the video but not all are that competent.
