1. Darren Wilson Resigns With No Severance Pay

FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson did not receive a severance package when he resigned over the weekend, the St. Louis suburb’s mayor said Sunday.

Wilson, 28, won’t receive any further pay or benefits, and he and the city have severed their ties, Mayor James Knowles told reporters a day after Wilson tendered his resignation, which was effective immediately.

Wilson, who is white, had been on administrative leave since he killed Michael Brown, an unarmed black 18-year-old, during an Aug. 9 confrontation. A grand jury decided Monday not to indict him, sparking days of sometimes violent protests in Ferguson and other cities.

Wilson wrote in his resignation letter that his “continued employment may put the residents and police officers of the City of Ferguson at risk, which is a circumstance I cannot allow.”

His lawyer, Neil Bruntrager, told The Associated Press that Wilson decided to step aside after police Chief Tom Jackson told him about the alleged threats on Saturday.

“The information we had was that there would be actions targeting the Ferguson (police) department or buildings in Ferguson related to the police department,” Bruntrager said. He said Wilson, who had worked for the department for less than three years, and the city were already discussing an exit strategy, acknowledging that staying on as an officer there would be impossible.

2. Ryan Knight of Real World New Orleans Dies at 29

Real World alum Ryan Knight , who was found dead on Thanksgiving morning, had been complaining about stomach issues recently, reports The New York Post.

Knight’s father said his son had vocalized his stomach issues for the past two days, police in Kenosha, Wisconsin, told TMZ.

An immediate cause of death was not found following the completion of an autopsy Friday morning, the website reports. Cops are waiting on toxicology report results to determine a cause of death since no “anatomical cause of death” was found.

The “Real World: New Orleans” star, who appeared on the show in 2010 and went on to compete in MTV’s “The Challenge,” reportedly partied with friends on Wednesday night. A friend found him dead on Thanksgiving morning, after Knight allegedly choked on his own vomit, TMZ reports.

Several people in contact with Knight said the 29-year-old had ingested “some pills,” but did not specify the type. No drugs were found at the scene. Police said attempts to revive Knight were unsuccessful. Signs of injury were not obvious. Knight’s death comes just weeks after the tragic death of Real World/Road Rules Challenge cast member, Diem Brown.

Knight’s last tweet, in the early hours of Thanksgiving morning, read somewhat cryptically, “You used to mean a lot.”

Two days earlier he left another, now poignant quote: “Have the type of life, that when you die no one will dare say, ‘he left us for a better place.’

Most of the rest of the Jersey Shore cast, including DJ Pauly D, also attended the wedding. However, two were missing: Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino and Vinny Guadagnino, a source told E! News.

“There’s no love lost between The Situation and Nicole and Snooki’s new husband Jionni is not a fan of Vinny’s,” the source said. The two have not commented.

Polizzi and LaValle’s nuptials were filmed for MTV and will be part of an upcoming “Snooki & JWoww” special episode.

6.Pastor Refuses To Bury 93-Year-Old Longtime Church Member Over Lack Of Tithes

The family of recently deceased 93-year-old Olivia Blair are upset over the fact that Pastor Walter F. Houston of the Fourth Missionary Baptist Church in Texas refused to bury the grandmother because she had not paid her tithes in two years.  Blair had been a church devotee for fifty years before being stricken with an illness that resulted in her becoming comatose and placed in hospice care, her reason for not tithing according to KRIV.

Blair’s daughter, Barbara Day (pictured) told KRIV that her stepfather had also been buried at the church and was confused as to why the church officials would turn her mother away.

“It was like the last insult in the world, there was nothing else that I could do for my mommy but funeralize her in the church that she loved and worshiped all of her life, even as a little girl.  For the last two years, my mother has been in either a nursing home or she’s been in a hospital,” she pointed out. “And the last few months, she was in a coma!”

Day feels she and her family have been blatantly disrespected and shamelessly dismissed by the church and still cannot believe that money is all they reportedly seem to care about telling KRIV,

“There’s no explanation for anybody that has been paying dues for a church that long, for him to make me have to roll my mother’s body around town, and somebody finally picks her up and says, ‘Yeah, we’ll do the best we can,’” Day insisted. “They knew she was ill! They don’t care! All they care about is getting money money money money money!”

Tyrone Jacques of PimpPreacher.com heard about the family’s plight and stepped into the matter.  Jacques contacted Houston who allegedly told him that Blair had not paid her tithes in about ten years but Day begs to differ insisting that her mom stopped supporting the church two years ago when she became physically ill.

Jacques pleaded the Blair family’s case to the pastor and even generously, offered to spring for the woman’s funeral costs as he outlined his plans to Houston.  The pastor reportedly responded to Jacques’ pleas with the following pat phrase,

“Membership has its privileges.”  Jacques then states on his website how Houston responded to his offer by reportedly stating, “If the family cared so much, why didn’t they at least send a dollar to the church a week to reserve her membership?”

Meanwhile Jacques is planning to organize area protests in order to put pressure on Houston to change his mind.

7.Former NFL Star Buys Farm To Feed Missouri’s Hungry

Jason Brown (pictured) had a stellar career with the St. Louis Rams. He signed a five-year contract with the team for a reported $37.5 million that included a $20 million guarantee, making him the highest paid center in the NFL. He started every game in 2009, 2010 and 14 in 2011. In March 2012, he was released from his contract but was pursued by three of the league’s top teams from San Francisco, Carolina and Baltimore. Brown traded in his cleats so that he can feed those who are hungry in his state of Missouri according to The Boston Globe.

Brown purchased 1,000 acres of farmland in Louisburg, North Carolina. The educated himself with regards to his new found career choice by watching YouTube makeshift tutorials and interviewing local farmers.

Despite the fame and fortune he could still receive playing football, Brown had made up his mind that helping the less fortunate was just more important than football and that serving God and having a “life of greatness and a life of service” was a paramount calling.

“Love is the most wonderful currency that you can give anyone,” Brown told CBS.

On his farm, Brown grows vegetables and donates the first fruits of every harvest to food pantries. According to CBS News, Brown gave away 100,000 pounds of sweet potatoes `this fall. Brown appears to get more of a thrill out of seeing his crops sprout, more so than tackling an opponent, telling the Business Insider,

“When you see them pop up out of the ground, man it’s the most beautiful thing you could ever see,” he said of harvesting the sweet potatoes according to CBS.

Meanwhile according to Rebecca Page, who organizes food collection for the needy, and who spoke to CBS, “It’s unusual for a grower to grow a crop just to give away. And that’s what Jason has done. And he’s planning to do more next year.”
