Katherine Louise

Denia: You truly are a “Jill of All Trades”, with a degree in Photography and History then moving into the PR industry, let our readers in on how you got your start in the beauty industry?

Katherine: I’m a great believer in everything leading to something else so everything I’ve ever done as led me on to where I am now. I got into beauty from blogging, and that led to me discovering a love for make up and training as an MUA. I wouldn’t have blogged if I hadn’t been a keen photographer or worked in PR so it all links. Blogging is so great because it’s self publishing – you can do what you want and it leads to some amazing opportunities.

Denia: How would you describe a “Day in The Life” when preparing for a shoot?

Katherine: When prepping for a shoot, other than washing brushes, its one of three things. The first is researching looks – seeing what kind of thing you want to create and how to go about it. Next is picking up new products if you need any specific or rifling though my kit for products. And finally, trying out the looks on myself. That’s the fun part!

Denia: What inspires you most about the fashion and beauty industry?

Katherine: Everything! I like making beautiful things more beautiful  – pretty girls prettier! Creating something pleasing to the eye whether its with make up or clothing.

Denia: What would you say in the most easiest/hardest thing about running your own business?

Katherine: Easiest is most definitely the lifestyle. I like being able to dictate what I do and when, and I like that I have to motivate myself to work. Hardest would be organisation and coordination – pinning other freelancers down is hard work sometimes!

Denia: What are some of your most memorable accomplishment throughout your career?

Katherine: My first fashion week was a big deal – I told myself that that was the year I was going to do it, and I did! And seeing my work in print – being able to hold it in your hand and show it to be people is a big deal.

Denia: Having great skin is always a must! What tips would you give our readers on keeping their skin in good condition?

Katherine: If you’re not big into skincare but you want to keep things looking their best, I think a good cleanser and moisturiser are the key things. Keeping your skin clean and removing make up at the end of the day, and keeping yourself hydrated are the best things you can do.

Denia: What advice would you give to aspiring makeup artists?

Katherine: Keep at it and keep busy! Try and be as busy and proactive as possible. It’s hard to keep going when it seems like the worlds against you – working for free, expensive costs and travel, limited work. But things slowly pick up and everything will lead onto something good. Be savvy with working unpaid mind – don’t let anyone take the mickey. If it’s not going to benefit you, don’t agree to it.

Denia: Where can our readers view your beautiful work and book you?

Katherine: My website (www.katherine-louise.com) is where you can find all the details! My portfolio, blog and contact details are all there.
