MixxSports: NCAA Reveals Final Four Host Cities Friday

Eight finalist cities were expected to make their final pitches on Tuesday to host one of the NCAA men’s Final Four basketball championship events in this latest bid cycle. The NCAA will reveal on Friday which of the cities will host the marquee event in 2017 through 2020.

Atlanta, Dallas, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, New Orleans, Phoenix and St. Louis all desire to take the coveted tournament to their own turf. However the bets are on The Alamo City to be a guarantee host, which has previously hosted multiple men’s and women’s Final Four tournaments.

Jenny Carnes, vice president of events and bids for San Antonio Sports, said Alamo City leaders are “cautiously optimistic” that the Final Four will return to the Alamodome.

Should the NCAA select San Antonio as one of the host cities, the Alamodome will undergo some significant changes. To meet NCAA requirements, the 21-year-old building will need roughly $44 million worth of capital improvements. If San Antonio is awarded one of the Final Four tournaments, City officials will begin the Alamodome renovation process in time to host an NCAA regional round of post-season games in 2017. That time-frame would allow San Antonio to host the Final Four as soon as 2018.

I personally wouldn’t mind seeing my hometown, Indianapolis, become a host of the NCAA but I’m sure sports fan alike feel the same way about their city. I guess we’ll all just have to wait until Friday to see what happens.
