JimiHendrix-2

James Marshall “Jimi” Hendrix (born Johnny Allen Hendrix)was an American musician, singer, and songwriter. Though his popular mainstream career was short lived, lasting four years, he is widely recognized as one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music, and one of the most celebrated musicians of the 20th century. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame describes him as “arguably the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock music”.

However, music wasn’t the only thing that Jimi had going for him. His rock star, curly afro was the halo to his guitar swag! Whether it was short and tight, bold and blown out, or in it’s naturally out-of-control state, everyone was awing over the Hendrix hairdo. Between his charm, talent, and great sense of style, his curly locks was that extra something that made him stand out and always camera ready.

But he wasn’t just a cute face with musical talent. He just like his hair, was legendary. Hendrix earned three UK top ten hits with the Jimi Hendrix Experience: “Hey Joe”, “Purple Haze”, and “The Wind Cries Mary” and achieved fame in the US after his performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. His album, Electric Ladyland, reached number one in the US and was the world’s highest-paid performer at the prime of his career prior to his death.

Hendrix received several acculades such as  Pop Musician of the Year, Artist of the Year, Performer of the Year,  World Top Musician and Rock Guitarist of the Year just to name a few. The Jimi Hendrix Experience was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. Rolling Stone ranked the band’s three studio albums, Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold as Love, and Electric Ladyland, among the 100 greatest albums of all time, and they ranked Hendrix as the greatest guitarist and the sixth greatest artist of all time.

With all those awards honey, he had no choice but to be runway ready and his afro was his best accessory to add pop to his gentlemen suede swag. Thank you Hendrix for showing us that there’s more to a man’s swag than a good suit, cute face, and talent. Hair isn’t just an asset for women and Hendrix hairdo proves that men can rock a bomb crown as well!
