2 Chainz Debates Legalizing Marijuana with Nancy Grace

Rapper 2 Chainz joined television host Nancy Grace to discuss the pros and cons of legal marijuana on HLN last night, and the result was TRUly hilarious.

Using the hashtag #Pot2Blame?, Grace tackled marijuana policy at length with a panel of guests that also included addiction specialist Brad Lamm andNational Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) Chair Norman Kent. However, the bulk of the segment was devoted to 2 Chainz aka Tauheed Epps, and Grace debating back and forth over marijuana becoming legal in all 50 states. Honey, Grace was pulling out all the stops from questing 2 Chainz about his parenting to his lyrics all the while playing b-roll of marijuana and 2 Chainz music videos in the background. She even asked him since he’s an advocate for the legalization of marijuana, could his kids be able to smoke it or sell it. 2 Chainz response:

“I have two beautiful little girls and I’m a great father,” the rapper said. “It’s about governing your own household. It’s about taking care of your own property. It’s about having some kind of structure in anything, any drug.”

The two mostly argued over a series of criminal cases where irresponsible people endangered the lives of children while under the influence of weed. In one case, the 3-year-old daughter of a Colorado couple died in a mobile home fire while her parents were drinking and smoking pot on the porch. Grace also referenced a Georgia teacher accused of letting minors smoke pot at her house, and a 2014 viral video of a toddler smoking a blunt while adult voices can be heard in the background. Grace’s used these isolated events as a glimpse into the future if pot becomes widely legal.

“You can’t use these particular stories to define everyone who uses [marijuana],” 2 Chainz said on Tuesday’s show. “You don’t have to be a genius; you don’t have to graduate from school. You don’t have to be a successful artist or entertainer to know that giving any child drugs is wrong.”

The rapper went on to list the benefits of marijuana, both medical and financial. He repeatedly referenced the hundreds of millions of dollars generated in Colorado by legal marijuana sales, and told Grace that taxpayer money currently used on minor drug arrests would be better spent elsewhere.

“I’m not sure if you know, but everybody has the ability to get their hands on pot right now, whether it’s legal or not. I just feel like if you legalize this particular drug you could cut out certain things in the criminal justice system as far as the overcrowding of prisons, as far as putting it on our criminal record to prevent us from getting loans, to prevent us from getting homes. Just the whole thing around recreational weed isn’t making any sense to me.”

When Grace questioned 2 Chainz about the benefits legal marijuana would have on society his response was,

“We’re in a deficit right now, we gotta try to find our ways on getting out,”  2 Chainz said. “So I figure if we got half of the states legalizing pot, if the rest of the community legalizes pot that frees up taxpayers’ money. That allows us to do something with those extra funds as far as fixing everything from potholes in the street to a stadium, so I’m done with it.”

On Monday’s program, Grace called marijuana legalization a “horrible” idea.

“The ones that are disagreeing are lethargic, sitting on the sofa eating chips,” she said. “Pot, it makes you fat and lazy.”

After the show, 2 Chainz went to Twitter thanking Grace for having him as a guest yet Grace is still determined to change his perspective on the issue.
